The defending Mountain East Conference Champion Fairmont State Fighting Falcons are the preseason favorite heading into the 2025-26 season, as it was announced during the MEC Basketball Media Day at WesBanco Arena. The Fighting Falcons were voted by 10 head coaches in the league as the number one team in the conference. West Liberty comes in ranked 2nd in the standings with the lone remaining first place vote.
University of Charleston, Glenville State, Concord and West Virginia State round out the top half of the conference, each carrying high expectations of making a run in the Mountain East this year. Wheeling University, along with Davis & Elkins are programs that’ll improve their ranking come conference play, with D&E returning most of their players from a year ago. Point Park (Pittsburgh, PA) is entering their 2nd year in the MEC with a solid roster willing to compete in 2025-26.
