West Virginia knew going into this game that they would need to win big at home after going 0-2 to Clemson and Xavier in the Charleston Classic last weekend, and they did just that in dominating fashion over the Mercyhurst Lakers 70-38. Ten Mountaineer players put numbers on the board, with 5th year senior Chance Moore leading the way with 11 points and 9 rebounds. Freshman guard Amir Jenkins added 10 points and 3 assists in over 22 minutes played and Senior forward Brenen Lorient had 9 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists, while playing only 18 minutes due to foul trouble. Senior forward Jackson Fields made his season debut for the Mountaineers, adding 9 points in 11 minutes.

West Virginia started the game on an 10-0 run, with Lorient dominating early on. Bernie Blunt was on a roll for Mercyhurst hitting a couple of threes down the stretch in the first half. Blunt led the Lakers with 14 points, while shooting 6-12 from the field and 2-4 from beyond the arc. It was a homecoming game for Shepherdstown, West Virginia native Cameron Johnson, who was a standout player for the Jefferson High School Cougars. The 6'5 Junior Wing finished the game with 5 points and 5 rebounds, with all of his scoring coming in the 2nd half.
The Mountaineers are now 6-2 on the year and are going to be back at Hope Coliseum on Wednesday, December 3rd as they take on the Coppin State Eagles at 7pm EST on ESPN+, then they will play Wake Forest at the Charleston Coliseum in the Capital City at 6pm EST on ESPN2.
