West Virginia high school basketball is getting a moment in the spotlight with the 2026 Battle for the Springhouse at The Greenbrier, one of the state’s most unique basketball events. Scheduled for January 30 to 31, 2026, the event brings top teams from across the Mountain State to compete in Colonial Hall, one of the most iconic venues in West Virginia.

The girls division will feature the Greenbrier East Lady Spartans, led by Senator Jim Justice, along with Morgantown, Parkersburg, and Riverside in what promises to be an intense competition. On the boys side, Greenbrier East, James Monroe, and Wyoming East will compete alongside last season’s Class AAA state champions, Bridgeport, creating a showcase of the state’s top high school basketball talent.

The tournament’s significance extends beyond the court. Senator Jim Justice, a longtime coach and advocate for youth sports in West Virginia, has played a pivotal role in supporting events like this. His leadership highlights how committed local figures can elevate high school athletics, giving young athletes opportunities to compete on stages that inspire them to reach higher.
What truly sets the Battle for the Springhouse apart is its setting at The Greenbrier, a resort with unparalleled historical and cultural significance. Founded in 1778, The Greenbrier has hosted generations of visitors, including presidents, world leaders, celebrities, and athletes. Colonial Hall itself has seen concerts, political events, and prestigious gatherings over the decades. During World War II, The Greenbrier served as a military hospital, demonstrating its longstanding role in American history.
The 2026 Battle for the Springhouse is not just a tournament. It is a celebration of West Virginia’s basketball talent and a historic venue that has stood as a symbol of the state’s legacy for over two centuries. For players, coaches, and fans alike, it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to compete at a place where history and sport intersect in a way that only The Greenbrier can offer.
